2011 Beijing International Music Festival was a Wow!

On April 20, 2011, over 500 students and teachers from Canada, Iran and China participated in the Beijing International Music Festival. They came from Calgary’s Bishop Carroll High School, the Calgary Arts Academy, Vancouver’s Lord Byng Secondary School, the Iran Singer and Dancer Group, and Beijing Bayi Middle School.
Since it was the first ever North American style music festival in a far away oriental country, no one really knew how it would look like before it really happened in a secondary school in Beijing. The big day came on the 21st of April. 268 young and professional musicians from Canada and Iran met more than 200 Chinese young artists on a sling stage. All were excited. The professor of vocal music from the China Conservatory of music, professor Zhao, did not move his eyes away from the stage until the last performance, finding the style of the festival so different from anything he has ever seen in his music career. “I think this is very exciting and significant in terms of music exchange and opening the eyes of people from different countries. I certainly like to see more of this kind of festival happen in China and be part of it again.” He told James Zhan, the President of Tianjiao.
